I reckon that vital probably is the strongest one here and imperative is the second, third is essential, important is the weakest.

What is the difference between "imperative" and "paramount" and ...

Imperative is fancy for important, they have the same meaning. Imperarive is also not used very much. Vital means something is extremely important, that it is a must (it is also a common word). I have never heard the words paramount or pivotal before unfourtunately. It is impertive/important that you get that report written.
