What is the difference between applicable law and governing law?

I’d like to confirm: 1) Do you mean the applicable law and the governing law are the same one concept? 2) The parties can agree in the contract where to resolve a dispute (i.e. that state's laws will apply to the dispute), but they usually don't specify which specific law will apply which will be left to the jury to decide.
